IBM stock up on news of focus on $1T Hybrid Cloud Market
Big news last week: IBM announced that it will focus on AI and the growing hybrid cloud platform market, a $1 trillion opportunity.
The acquisition of Red Hat for $34 billion in 2019 let IBM build its hybrid-cloud platform that supports computing on-premises and in private- and public-cloud environments.
IBM will spin off its $19 billion Managed Infrastructure Services unit of its Global Technology Services division into a NewCo in 2021.
“IBM is laser-focused on the $1 trillion hybrid cloud opportunity,” said Arvind Krishna, IBM Chief Executive Officer in thisIBM press release from Thursday October 8, 2020.
“Hybrid cloud and AI are swiftly becoming the locus of commerce, transactions, and over time, of computing itself,” Arvin stated in a blog about the move.
“We have positioned IBM for the new era of hybrid cloud,” said Ginni Rometty, IBM Executive Chairman. “Our multi-year transformation created the foundation for the open hybrid cloud platform, which we then accelerated with the acquisition of Red Hat.
